I'll admit, I often find myself overwhelmed by the technical side of photography. Just when I think I’ve grasped one concept, two more emerge and leave me puzzled all over again. Working at a place like Fotobox has made it clear just how much there is to learn in this field. That said, while trying to understand the technical aspects of capturing the perfect shot has been challenging, I’ve found some success exploring the more conceptual side of photography. I think there’s a lesson in there somewhere, that chasing the perfect shot is admirable, but maybe not the be all and end all. I do not consider myself a photographer at all, but have had photographs shown in galleries and publications in the past year. Are they what you would call technically sound photos? Nope, not even a little bit. What I lack in ability, I make up for in the idea surrounding the images, or at least that’s what I tell myself. People are drawn to art for a number of reasons and, I think technical mastery is only part of the story.
What all this boils down to is that you shouldn’t let things like comparison to others stifle your own creative impulses. There will always be those better than you, and there will always be those worse than you. Don’t let that stop you from exercising those creative muscles and getting your work out there! At the end of the day it really is up to your audience whether they like a piece or not.
If this resonates with you, and you're ready to share your work, flaws, ideas, and all, Fotobox is here to help bring it to life. We specialize in printing photographs and fine art prints with care, so whether you're chasing a concept or capturing a feeling, we’re here to help you put it out into the world.
